ultrachrome is epson's pigment based, archival ink used by my 2200 printer. it is more stable than the regular dye based inks used by most ink jet printers, which begin to fade in months. i print on 160 lb. arches infinity paper, which is an acid-free, cotton paper with a special coating to better receive ink jet ink.
both arches & epson claim these prints will last over 100 years without fading, but these claims are based on "acceleration simulations" because all this technology is brand new. i use the best materials available to me to make my prints archival and i store them in archival boxes and bags. when you get them home, i highly recommend matting them in acid free, cotton mat board and framing them under glass or acrylic to best protect them from the sun and atmosphere. i will mat and frame them under non-glare acrylic if you'd like to receive your print ready to hang. please contact me for more details.
